What this site collects, why, and how to make it stop.
Template — replace before launch
This is a placeholder written to give the page structure and to satisfy the requirement that a privacy policy exists. It is not legal advice and it has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Fill in the bracketed details, delete anything that does not apply to you, and check it against the rules that cover your readers — in practice that usually means GDPR if anyone in the EU or UK reads you, and Vietnam's Decree 13/2023 on personal data protection if you operate here. Delete this box when you are done.
This site is operated by [Your name or company], [address]. If you have a question about anything below, write to hello@example.com and a person will answer.
What we collect
Three things, and only three.
- Your email address, if you type it into a sign-up or enquiry form. We use it to send the newsletter or to answer your enquiry. We do not sell, rent or share it.
- Basic analytics — pages viewed, rough location by country, referring site, device type. This is aggregated and is not used to identify you. [Name the analytics tool you actually use, or delete this line if you use none.]
- Advertising data, collected by Google and its partners. See the section below.
We do not ask for, and do not want, your date of birth, your phone number, or anything else we have no use for.
Advertising
This site carries advertising served by Google AdSense. That means the following, in Google's own arrangement rather than ours:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads on this site. [List them here if you add any. If AdSense is your only network, say so.]
If you are reading from the EU, UK or Switzerland, you will be shown a consent notice before personalised ads are served, and you can change your choice at any time. [Confirm you have a certified CMP in place — Google requires one for traffic from those regions.]
Cookies
Cookies set on this site fall into two groups: the ones needed to make the site work, and the ones set by the advertising and analytics services named above. You can clear or block all of them in your browser settings. Blocking advertising cookies does not stop you seeing ads; it stops them being tailored to you.
The newsletter
Sign-ups are handled by [your email provider — Mailchimp, Buttondown, Kit, etc.], which stores your address on your behalf and on ours. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes your address from the list; write to us if you would also like it deleted from our records.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@example.com and we will respond within [30 days]. If you are unhappy with how we have handled it, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site is not directed at children under [13 / 16, depending on your jurisdiction] and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so at the top of this page and, if you are on the newsletter, in an issue.
